The 10k run will take in the Pyramid Stage, the Stone Circle and the Pirate Ship. It will also pass by the fabulous medieval Pilton Abbey Barn and along part of the old trackway of the Somerset & Dorset Railway!

There will also be runs of 5k and 2k for runners and walkers who want to enjoy themselves on the atmospheric Festival site.

THE FESTIVAL RUN AND ITS VOLUNTEERS MAKE THE NEWS!

You are famous! The strong community spirit of Pilton was shown on 9th October by 100+ volunteers who marshalled the course, parked cars, handed out running numbers, baked and sold cakes, managed the start and finish and other important tasks for the 2016 Festival Run. BBC Bristol made a live broadcast, BBC Somerset, the Shepton and Wells Journals, the Mendip Times and Glastonbury FM all featured it, with many commenting on the extraordinary spirit that leads 100+ people from a village of 800 to come together to organize the Run on a community basis, and to marshal it so successfully. In doing so we raised the record amount of around £11,000 for the Dorset and

Somerset Air Ambulance and The Alzheimers’ Society South West.

The enjoyment you gave the 660 runners from all over the South West and as far away as London, Rugby and Coventry can be seen in a few of the flood of social media comments they made afterwards –“ We had such a fun day, beautiful weather, a challenging course and such great volunteers. Looking forward to next year already!”; “So well organized, the marshals and volunteers did a brilliant job so a big thank you to them. I'll be back for the next one!” and “Loved my first running event (5k). Already looking forward to next year's. May even start training for the 10k"; "Thought everything was super-organized and the marshals and all the volunteers did a fantastic job on the day ”.

THE FESTIVAL RUN 2018

Following the 2017 gap year, The Festival Run is intending to return in 2018 for a fifth time.

For those who don't know, this takes place in October, and consists of 2k, 5k and 10k runs held on the Festival site. In 2016 it attracted around 800 runners from a wide area and raised £11,000 for The Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance, and The Alzheimer's Society.

It is run by an independent organising committee, which is currently a bit depleted but seeks new volunteers to assist. No previous experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a willingness to support the effort to continue this highly successful village event.

The committee meets around once a month until the event in October, duties are not difficult or overly time consuming. Any volunteers are welcome to contact thefestivalrun@gmail.com
