On Sunday 22nd November Pilton ringers rang for two services at Pylle Church. In the morning the church was full for the happy occasion of the baptism of Hugo James Jenkin – grandson of Keith and Jilly Jenkin. Hugo’s parents, Ollie and Chantelle, were married at Pylle in April 2013.
In the afternoon the ringers were back to ring for the special annual service to mark the Guild of Somerset Craftsmen. The Guild was founded by Lt. Col. James Garton from Pylle. It held its inaugural meeting in November 1933. Col. Garton and his associates created many of the fine artefacts in Pylle church. Six current members of the Guild joined the local congregation for an interesting service led by Revd Canon Graham Hendy who had brought along a couple of items which he had made and told us the stories behind them.
Tea and homemade cakes and a chance to look more closely at some of the treasures of Pylle church put the finishing touches to a busy day.
